How we got engaged

In December we started planning a long weekend in Tahoe with a few friends.  Steve and I were the only ones who could do 5 days, as everyone else planned to come for 3.  So we planned to stay in a hotel for the first night, and then a cabin for the rest of the weekend.

As the weekend approached, we saw the the snow wasn't any good and I told Steve we should just cancel the night at the hyatt we had booked and go up the following day.  He insisted that we go up anyways. So we did, left home at 4:30 am and we were up at the top of the mountain by 9am that day, Wednesday, January 4th.  We had all our gear on as it was cold when we arrived.  But a couple runs later, it was hot and we were already sweating by 10am.  Being that I was running on only a few hours of sleep and it was hot, I was in a rush to get down the hill each time to unzip and take my helmet off!

We had some lunch at the lodge and by 1:30, I was ready to go.  I told Steve I was tired he agreed to leave;  "Gondola or ski lift down?" I said gondola since I was done. As we got onto the gondola, he looked out into the snow and "Yea, it's a good idea we took the gondola, it looks pretty bad out there." I looked over and thought, not really, its actually better than I thought....and as I was looking out the window, Steve started to take something out of his pocket and got down on one knee.  In this tiny gondola, may I add!! He told me he knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and that he wanted to marry me too.  At this point, I was shaking and in shock but also very happy!! I said "of course!!' and "yes!" and then this beautiful ring was on my finger and I couldn't stop smiling.

We went back to the hotel and after an hour or so, I started making a few phone calls.  Mom, dad, Kristin, Courtney, etc.  No one answered!!! So we sat at the bar and had a drink to celebrate and waited for everyone to get off work and check their phones :)

We had a wonderful long weekend with our friends who came up the next night and celebrated with lots of champange!! Cheers to a year of wedding planning! :)
